Analytical Interpretation to President’s Obama’s Inaugural Speech

On January 20 2009, a historical event took place. For the first time in the history of our great nation, a African American citizen of the united states was inaugurated into being our 44th president. In president Obama's speech, he addressed the alarming number of problems in the united states and how he would work to fix them. In doing this, he created a sense of hope among those 2 million people gathered in the cold winter of Washington DC. His strong use of words such as "The words have been spoken during rising tides of prosperity and the still waters of peace. Yet, every so often the oath is taken amidst gathering clouds and raging storms" and many more inspiring words Americans will continue to quote. His speech told of his promise for our nation, "They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America - they will be met."

The two main ideas in Obama's speech include his promise for the nation. The first is "Homes have been lost; jobs shed; businesses shuttered. Our health care is too costly; our schools fail too many; and each day brings further evidence that the ways we use energy strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet." He believes that if he informs the people. Secondly, he claims "The state of the economy calls for action, bold and swift, and we will act - not only to create new jobs, but to lay a new foundation for growth. We will build the roads and bridges, the electric grids and digital lines that feed our commerce and bind us together. We will restore science to its rightful place, and wield technology’s wonders to raise healthcare’s quality and lower its cost. We will harness the sun and the winds and the soil to fuel our cars and run our factories. And we will transform our schools and colleges and universities to meet the demands of a new age. All this we can do. And all this we will do." He wants to address all these issues in a way that will cause no further harm to our country. In doing so he believes, that the nation will flourish like it once did.

In order to capture the audience's attention, Obama uses many techniques to hook them in and leave them lingering on his words. One of the many techniques he uses is call to action, to get the people motivated. The best known example of this is "Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America." Many people view this as his personal call to action for the entire nation, how all together they will work and fix America. Another example is his use of metaphors throughout the speech. The one that most struck me was "The words have been spoken during rising tides of prosperity and the still waters of peace. Yet, every so often the oath is taken amidst gathering clouds and raging storms." Vivid images flashed through my head upon hearing those words. By using metaphors the audience begins to be drawn into the speech. But perhaps my favorite technique Obama used was his word choice. "For us, they toiled in sweatshops and settled the West; endured the lash of the whip and plowed the hard earth." His strong words throughout the speech made his voice and tone stand out so clearly. The wording flowed together smoothly, as if they had been meant to be said for ages.

In conclusion, I believe this speech was very effective. President Obama's intention was to spread awareness to the American people, thank them for helping him gain presidency and portray his future plans for the nation. He will lead this nation out of the economic crisis and into better times. I put my faith in Obama and I look forward to seeing what he can accomplish in the future. In the words of Obama: "All this we can do. And all this we will do."

On January 19, 2009 Senator Barack Obama gave his Inaugural speech in front of 2.5 million people, and became American’s first African American president. When the America’s 44th president, Barack Obama, stood up on that podium the whole audience went dead silence as he gave his opening statement. “My fellow citizens: I stand here today humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors.” After this great opening, he began his speech that would change this country, and its people in it. This speech would be remembered as the most historical event in America.
In president Obama’s Speech he talked about all the problems in our time in this country. He mentioned global warming, the war in Iraq, our economy issues, health care, and our people losing jobs. The ones that caught my attention the most to listen was our economy issues, and the war in Iraq. “Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred.” What Obama said is true we are in a war and that we are in a crisis that has affected not only the families who have family in that war, but has affected our economy greatly. Obama said “Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some.” To me this part of the speech made me think of Bush and how he wasted so much money on the war and other things like foreign oil and other crap.
In Obama’s Inaugural speech, well of course, he used a few persuasive techniques; like allusions, metaphors, and mentions different religions. “We the People have remained faithful to the ideals of our forebearers, and true to our founding documents.” This is an allusion because he is talking about the founding fathers and the U.S Constitution. “Yet, every so often, the oath is taken amidst gathering clouds and raging storms.” This is a metaphor, and it means that even during the hard times of battle and other bad things this presidential oath was taken during those times. “We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus -- and nonbelievers. We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this Earth.” This was to kind of give credit to the other believers, and also to show how he just does not believe in one thing.
In this speech he has said things about the past, now, and what will change in the future. To me this speech actually made me listen and I was interested in what he had to say. This speech was really effective to me and I hope that every thing he said will happen.

Analytical Interpretation to President’s Obama’s Inaugural Speech
By
Isaac Israel

This is President Barack Obamas inaugural speech that was spoken on January 20th 2009. He was speaking to members of congress, the previous president, and virtually everyone else in various places in the world. In the second paragraph he talks about how our nation is in a crisis and how each of them will be met, and it will take time. I also like how he uses metaphors about how people act such as; “but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.” He also talks about people who served for our country like; “For us, they fought and died, in places like Concord and Gettysburg; Normandy and Khe Sanh” But president Obama also refers to what is happening now in America and all that can be done for America in this current time, our current state of economy, global climate, education, war, and many other worldly issues. He even tells how he might not be able to resolve all of this before he finishes his term in office. I think his speech is meant to inspire and encourage everyone else to do their part to help the world in its current state of need.

Analysis of Obama's Inauguration Speech

per.1/2

On January 20th, 2008 president Barack Obama, was sworn into office to become the 44th president of the United States of America. After he was sworn into office, he spoke a speech to over 2,000,000 people in Washington D.C. and even more watching television. His speech was mostly used to let the American people in on a taste of what he would be doing over the next four years of his term. He used words such as " consequence of greed and irresponsibility", to explain the condition of this country. All in all, his speech mostly describe the change he would make for the nation for a better tomorrow.
One of the biggest points that he tried to get across his speech was how he was going to fix this country. He quoted "Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age". With this he is saying that our country is being face war, a failing economy, and corruption. In another quote, "The state of the economy calls for action, bold and swift, and we will act -- not only to create new jobs, but to lay a new foundation for growth. We will build the roads and bridges, the electric grids and digital lines that feed our commerce and bind us together". This quote states how he will began to fix the damage that has been done to our country. Another point he tried to get across was the change the country had taken by electing an African-American to become president. He uses this quot the describe how they have come together no matter what the race in a hope for a new beginning: "On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord".
In his speech he used many techniques to persuade the listeners but one of his most common one was allusion. He referred a lot to previous presidents that dealt with issues that are similar to the ones today. This is an example of one he used about the American Revolution "Let it be told to the future world ... that in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue could survive... that the city and the country, alarmed at one common danger, came forth to meet". Another Persuasive technique he used was the use of metaphors. One of the metaphors was used used when he was explaining how Americans worked for a better life. This would be effective since he is referring to people we all owe are lives to for building this country. Along with allusions and metaphors, another persuasive technique he used was comparison. He compared some of the battles from the American Revolution and battles from modern day. He compared Concord and Gettysburg to Normandy and Khe Sahn. With doing this he tried to show that the bravery of Americans still exist.
With referring to important events in American history, he convinced his audience, most of the population, that he truly loved his country. He also explained the bravery and the hard work that American did to make this country. While referring to the past, he also refereed to the present. He referred to Martin Luther King Jr. and how before he made his speech, becoming president for African-Americans would only he a dream. And with today he explained that he will make America the best it has ever been.

President Barack Obama's Inauguration was special because he is the first African American president in U.S. history. The speech he made was very significant and straight forward. He makes it clear that he wants to help our nation's problems including the economy, global warming, war, health care expenses, and our school problems. One of my favorite lines from his speech is in response to this: "But know this America: They will be met." Obama states that "we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America." This means that he will help us start out fresh on a new America and he won't pick up where America was left off when he became president. I liked how Obama used metaphors for example when he said. "we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist."
Overall, Obama had a very significant Inauguration speech. I believe that he will be a good president that will turn our nation around in to a better place. He will try his best to make things as good as he can for America.

January 20th 2009. This day was probably the most important days in presidential inauguration history. The day that America’s first African American president Barrack Obama was sworn in. At the Mall in Washington D.C., Obama gave his inagurational speech in front of about 2.5 million people. The whole earth stood still eyes glued to the television, to see this one special moment in time.
One thing that caught my attention in Obama’s speech was when he said “We will stand a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.” To me this statement is saying that if you accept what’s going on then we will complete things a lot faster. Such as the homes and jobs that have been lost, businesses shutdown, the health care that is too expensive for the average American, and the schools are failing. Together America can solve these problems. United as we stand.
Another thing in his speech that I thought was to a degree of importance was how he used history and past ordeals to show what was needed to make this a better country. “Because we have tasted the bitter swore of civil war…” [We must] “Usher in a new world of peace.”
In conclusion I believe that the next four, (hopefully eight), years will be the best years of American history, and that we will get an effective plan on our economy’s rebuilding and our ecosystem’s rebuilding.

On January 20, 2009, a historic event took place at the National Mall, as millions watched the inauguration of the 44th president, Barack Obama. This passing of presidents was a transition from one commander in chief to another. His first line was the reality we as a nation will face in the upcoming years. His message summed up the generations and presidents of the past, and what the generations in the future will face. He mentioned the downfall of the economy, “ a consequence of greed and irresponsibility” he says, and the rising price of healthcare. As he accepts the task of turning the country around, he accepts a mission that will most likely be criticized by many, but hopefully will direct us in a new way.

President Obama had several points that grabbed my attention, but what he said about the battles that got us here today was a highlight of the speech. He says, “ For us , that fought and died, in places like Concord and Gettysburg; Normandy and Khe Sahn.” These fights and figures made us the country we are now. Obama himself said “greatness is never a given, it must be earned.”

“For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness. We are a nation of Christians, Jews and Hindus. We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this earth.” This quote from President Obama is exactly what makes our nation so unique. Our variety and how we can accept everyone for who they are no matter what color skin they are, or what they believe.

President Obama’s ability to use the technique of illusions and place them in his speech gave thew audience a fabulous image of his points. For example, he said, “This is the source of our confidence- the knowledge that God calls on us to shape an uncertain destiny.” From this, I can imagine in a greater sense, what we can accomplish, and how this will better our country.

Obama was great at being able to use real, every day examples of people- “ A firefighter’s courage to storm a stairway filled with smoke, but also a parent’s willingness to nurture a child, that finally decides our fate.” This image exemplifies America, and the courage people demonstrate that helps our country.

The truth was a technique used by President Obama. The truth is perhaps the hardest thing to face. The economy, healthcare, education, poor countries, are all examples of the truth we have to face.

In sum, Obamas speech was well written and well received. Hopefully, we will get the change that has been promised.

Barrack Hussein Obama Was sworn in January 20th, 2009 he became the 44th president of the United States of America and the first African American to clame the office of president. Millions of people crowded into Washington D.C to watch this historic event take place, there we even more people watching it on television. Obama used strong words that hit people in a deep way. He explained that America was in a crisis situation, but it could be fixed with time and perseverance. In one line he said, "That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood". Obama wants American citizens to know there will be a long road ahead of us until we fix the majority of our problems.

Obama Stated "Now, there are some who question the scale of our ambitions - who suggest that our system cannot tolerate too many big plans". Obama wants to restore trust in Americans and bring America to a peace era, he wants to take on big problems and get to work fixing them right away. Obama said he is tired of the stale political policies that have consumed us for so long, we need change, and to bring change we need new ideas and a new era of people. Another main point of Obamas speech was remaking America, he mentioned all the Americans who work hard everyday so that everyone might live a better life.

One of Obamas techniques is motivation, he motivates listeners by talking about how bad we need change in this country, he also motivates by telling everyone has ready to lead, using big words and ideas like in this quote. "And so to all the other peoples and governments who are watching today, from the grandest capitals to the small village where my father was born: know that America is a friend of each nation and every man, woman, and child who seeks a future of peace and dignity, and we are ready to lead once more". Another technique is how obama strikes back at the old policies that we've already passed by, "What the cynics fail to understand is that the ground has shifted beneath them - which the stale political arguments that have consumed us for so long no longer apply. He describes how we must no longer look back at old ways of government and thinking. The last technique I recognized was his strong reference to Americans, he refers to Americans as strong people that work hard everyday and are improving our country constantly.

In my opinion, I was very fond of obamas speech; I felt that all the words he spoke would be true once he was in office. Obama spoke very strongly and true to his word. I believe he deserves to be the president of the United States, obama worked hard to get Americans votes everywhere and he succeeded, Barrack Obama is a great man.

Our new President, Barack Obama, was sworn into office on January 20th, 2009 as the first African-American president to be elected. During "Inauguration Day", President Obama voiced his inaugural speech to a crowd of over 2 million citizens and the rest of the world watching at home. His speech is one to be remembered for its very specific ideas and clear plan of what is to be done while he is in office. Barack Obama is the perfect example of the American dream and how anything can be achieved, when you work hard and put your mind to something. The 44th inaugural speech was our map to where President Obama is hoping the United States will be after his 4 years as president.

In the beginning of the inaugural speech, Obama refers to the many challenges that we are facing in this difficult crisis. He addresses such issues like the war, costly health care, and our overuse of the earths' energy and resources. President Obama goes on to explain that yes we can overcome this recession, and crisis and we will. He uses examples and evidence from the past. President Obama is referring to slavery in the Union when he says, " For us, they toiled in sweatshops and settled the West; endured the lash of the whip and plowed the hard earth". Barack Obama uses a very different technique by explaining all of the problems, and crisis we face, but then lifting the country's spirit up by saying we will defeat those challenges and those people who dare to threaten the United States, its freedom, and its strength.

In conclusion, most people around the country-around the world- are looking forward to what great things Barack Obama has in store for the U.S. during his upcoming presidency. Barack Obama's inaugural speech was definitely an effective, well written, and powerful piece of writing which not only made U.S. citizens realize the problems we face, but realize that we can overcome them. And though the speech was well written and beautifully prepared, without Obama's persuasive and powerful way of speaking, it would have just been another speech. The inaugural speech voiced on January 20th, may have been just words, however I, and many other Americans, believe what Barack Obama has to say and trust that he will do it. The speech is a map to where we want to be, and with Barack Obama's guidance, and the United States' help, we can get there.

Inauguration Speech Analyzation

In this inauguration speech on the date 1/20/09, I believe that president Obama tried to convey a message of hope and peace to the audience (who was not only the United States of America but the whole world our allies and our enemies). His message was to create unity and to bring responsibility to the world and for everyone to do the work that is necessary to keep this world together. He used the words “On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord.” In these words he tells the people that America still has hope.

Two main ideas that President Obama dealt out to the people was the idea that we America are in crises and that we have to work to get out of which he says here “Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America — they will be met.” By this he means that we r in the middle of the crises and he will be helping our country get out of it. Another main idea he had was he focused on all of the people that traveled to us for a better life and to be free, he says, “For us, they packed up their few worldly possessions and traveled across oceans in search of a new life. For us, they toiled in sweatshops and settled the West; endured the lash of the whip and plowed the hard earth. For us, they fought and died, in places like Concord and Gettysburg; Normandy and Khe Sahn.”

He uses many different types of techniques and one is parralism he uses this when he talks about immigrants who came here for freedom, he uses this technique because he wants to emphasize his point. He also appealed to authority when he thanked George Bush. He also used testimonial when he got the preacher to say an old song phrase from the civil rights movement era.

I believe that this speech was a very good way to start of his presidency. It made people rejoice that they chose him as president and made people have hope for this country in the next four years. What I think this speech did most was reassure the people of the united states that he will do everything in his power to fix what has gone wrong with this economy, the war, and all of our dept. Lets hope it all works out.

On January 20, 2009 Senator Barrack Obama presented his inaugural speech in front of about 5 million people. Obama spoke about the economy and that we are in the midst of crisis which means that the economy is terrible. He also mentioned homes being lost, jobs being shed, and businesses being shut down.

Two excerpts that were important to this speech were "we are in the midst of crisis" as well as "the words have been spoken during rising tides of prosperity and the still waters of peace.
President Obama's Inaugural Speech

One persuasive technique he used was figurative language such as "we are in the midst of crisis". Another technique he used was appeal to emotion. One other was historical events.

The speech's effectiveness was very touching. A lot of people cried. That's how effective it was.

On January 20, 2009, a very memorable and historic event was taking place. On a cold, blustery winter day at the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C, the United States first African American President Barrack Hussein Obama was sworn in. After he was sworn in, President Obama gave a very memorable speech in front of over 2 million people,as it was watced worldwide. Obama's amazing speaking ability gives him the advantage of addressing our nation so well, and gaining our respect so quickly. He is not afraid to admit that our nation is the middle of a huge crisis. In Obama's speech, Obama had many memorable quotes, but one of my favorite quotes was when Obama stated, "Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America- they will be met." That, to me, is my most inspirational quote because of how much it strikes your mind. It makes you think that Obama does have the leadership to stand up and face the world and admit the U.S is in crisis, but it gives each U.S citizen the security of knowing Obama believes in our country. Hearing Obama's speech, he focused on two main points, both of them addressed clearly and seriously. The first, our economic crisis, and second, our wars with other countries and the threat of each one. Overall, he addressed what we as a nation, The United States of America, need to do to put this country back at the top.

On January 20th, 2009 president elect Barack Obama was sworn in at the nations capital, Washington D.C as the 44th president of the United States of America. On that day history was made not only because he was the first African-American president but also because of the speech he gave.

In his speech he stated that us as a nation we were in an economic downward spiral and need to get out of Iraq but that we all could fix that if we work as a unity and a nation to bring peace and help each other in this time of hardship. His speech was so inspiring that most Americans were in “Aw” when he presented that speech. You know what, it wasn’t probably just Americans, it probably was the whole world because his speech wasn’t just being aired in the U.S, it was being aired to all of the world. In his speech he sounded so confident he way he said “ A man who may have not been served in a restaurant 60 years ago, may stand in front of you in one of the most sacred ceremonies.” How can someone like that sound so confident standing in front of all those people and say things like that and not get nervous., I’ll tell you, only a great leader can.

In his speech he used a lot of persuasive techniques such as; imagery, reference, repetition, similes and much more. He also used a lot of allusions (references to people or event) like when he referred to President Bush and about slavery. To me there were some memorable phrases Barack Obama used like “ spirit of service”. I don’t know why but there is just something about that phrases that is always going to be memorable.

In conclusion I think Barack Obama’s speech in one to remember because it was so inspiring and so well constructed.

On January 20, 2009 we inaugurated the 44th President of the US of A, Barack Obama. Some of the important words used by the President were: founders, fathers challenges, trust, prosperity and founding documents. He used words like these, in addition to others, to appeal to his audiences emotions, not their intellect. One of the things Obama said was, "...our workers are no less productive than when this crisis began." The new President only has an out line to what he wants to do and no way to do it. For example, he has a trillion dollar bailout plan that is 80% pork, meaning stuff that will cost us money, not save us money. Obama also talks about how "our economy is badly weakened." He has even said that this is the worst economy since the Great Depression. I'll tell ya kids had one or two toys if they were lucky and many families only ate meat once a week or if they hunted. When they bought meat it was the worst pieces they could find.
I feel that President Obama’s speech was not very effective. He made his goals clear. He is a very good speaker but he did not tell us how he was going to accomplish his goals. He tried to make the people who elected him understand that the changes that he spoke of will take hard work and as long as we are patient he will make our country a strong nation, I hope. He seems excited about the job that he has and most of the people are ready for his changes, though I am not.
What I hope to get from Obama is exactly how he plans to reach his goals. I hope he will lower taxes because that is one of best ways to make the economy better.
