Madeline Clark Reflection-Solution Source: Emancipation Proclamation
What I Did
I went online and researched the Emancipation Proclamation which was written by Abraham Lincoln. I read and took notes on the transcript.
What I Learned
The document applied to all slaves in the southern states that were in rebellion Abraham Lincoln wrote the proclamation It did not end slavery but it changed the purpose and feeling of the war Allowed African Americans to fight for freedom as soldiers or sailors It was supposed to help the Union win the war
Questions I Have
1. Why did you declare freedom of slaves only in the southern states and not in the northern states? 2. Why did it not end slavery? 3. Who agreed with Abraham Lincoln about this proposal? 4. Why were the African Americans forced to be slaves? 5. Are there still many African American slaves in the United States?
What Surprised Me
What surprised me was that people liked to have slaves and force them to do back breaking tasks. How only Abraham Lincoln tried to change this cruelty. Also why this proclamation didn't end slavery.
Overall Response
My overall thoughts to this Proclamation is that I agree with Abraham Lincoln that slavery should be put to an end. I learned that people should unite other then discriminate against one another. One thing I disagree with is why he didn't declare the elimination of slavery in the northern states as well as the southern states.
