Where: Thomas Jefferson lived in America and he wanted land from Spain, but Napoleon Bonaparte wanted that land too, he was from France.

He wanted to buy he states from The territory of Louisiana was originally colonized by France. In 1762, all French territory west of the Mississippi including the island of New Orleans was ceded to Spain, and, by the general treaty of peace which followed the French and Indian War in 1763, the whole territory of France eastward of the Mississippi except the Island of Orleans was ceded to Great Britain.

Who: Thomas Paine What: Wrote the book Common Sense When: 1775 Where: Thomas Paine was from England Why: In the book there is four different sections that talk about different stuff. The Origin and Design of Government in general, with concise Remarks on the English Constitution, then Monarchy and Hereditary Succession, then Thoughts on the present State of American Affairs, and The present Ability of America, with some miscellaneous Reflections.
2.Write a summary about the document. Explain the main ideas about the primary source.
Common Sense was written by Thomas Paine in 1775. Common Sense talks/criticizes stuff in the English government, such as The Designing of Government, the success of Monarchy and Hereditary, his thoughts on American Affairs, and the Ability of America. In The Designing of Government Paine makes a distinction between society and government. In Monarchy and Hereditary Succession Paine says that all men are created equally and therefore the distinction between kings and subjects are a false one. In the State of American Affairs Paine examines the hostilities between American colonies and England and the best thing to do is give them independence. In the present Ability of America Paine explains his views on the American military potential during the Revolution.

1. Read and discuss the primary source, examining the who, what, when, where, and why. Abraham Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation in 1862. He was in office at the time and this document was written to free the slaves.
2. Write a summary about the document. Explain the main ideas about the primary source. In the Emancipation Proclamation it states, "That on the 1st day of January, A.D. 1863, all persons held as slaves within any State or designated part of a State shall be then, thenceforward, forever free" This statement is what the whole thing is all about. It takes all slaves and sets them free.

Examine an interesting quotation or sentence and justify why you selected this statement "I do order and declare that all persons held as slaves within said designated States and parts of States are, and henceforward shall be, free" This statement is the basis of the whole Proclamation it states that all slaves will be free.
